When does the Nigerian MPR passport officially expire?

The Federal Government yesterday extended the life span of the old Machine Readable Passport (MRP) from December 31  to April 30, 2011 which was previously billed to cease being a valid travel document and replaced with the harmonised ECOWAS biometrics passport (e-passport).
Adducing reasons for the extension of the date for the phase out of the passport at the 2010 ministerial scorecard on the achievements of his ministry in Abuja, the Minister of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho, stated that the previous date had to be reviewed given the anticipated rush by Nigerians whom were yet to meet the expected deadline of changing to the harmonised ECOWAS bio-metrics passport.
The minister, who  stated that the reviewed date may still be changed if  positive results was not achieved before the new date elapsed, disclosed that  the Nigerian Immigration Service has stock piled passport booklets for the use of issuing centres at the 36 state locations and the service headquarters in order to protect and meet the expected high demand of the e-passport from Nigerians in the diaspora.
He pointed out that the service has to this effect procured 15 mobile enrolment machines, as well as trained 135 officers on the intervention programme in the six continents of the world to enroll applicants and issue them with the much needed e-passport.
is the issuing centre for the FCT which is awaiting the provision of a suitable site.
"On the Foreign missions, the rollout has been completed in thirteen (13) pilot sites in our foreign missions. They are South Africa, Spain, UK, India USA, Malaysia, Portugal Germany France Atlanta Kenya and Ireland".
Describing the present status of the Fire service as a shame to the country with regards to its population , he maintained that the service can only be re -position for effective service delivery through the the active participation of all the three tiers of Government in the development of Fire stations across the country. .

Hi Ms Know-It-All

We are non Hungarian couple living in Hungary. We have just had a child who was born in Budapest. Is he automatically Hungarian?
No, your child is not automatically Hungarian. But of course he may become Hungarian citizen automatically after finishing his secondary education in Hungarian school; or he may get his citizenship when he is 14 but this is subject to one of his parents paying tax

Love the article on Gaddafi
We must rise above tribalism & divide & rule of the colonialist who stole & looted our treasure & planted their puppets to lord it over us..they alone can decide on whosoever is performing & the one that is corrupt..but the most corrupt nations are the western countries that plunder the resources of other nations & make them poorer & aid the rulers to steal & keep such ill gotten wealth in their country..yemen,syria etc have killed more than gadhafi but its not A̷̷̴ good investment for the west(this is laughable)because oil is not in these countries..when obasanjo annihilated the odi people in rivers state, they looked away because its in their favour & interest..one day! Hello from
Johannesburg
I was amazed to find a website for Africans in Hungary.
Looks like you have quite a community there. Here in SA we have some three million Zimbabweans living in exile and not much sign of going home ... but in Hungary??? Hope to meet you on one of my trips to Europe; was in Steirmark Austria near the Hungarian border earlier this month. Every good wish for 2011. Geoff in Jo'burg

I'm impressed by
ANH work but...
Interesting interview...
I think from what have been said, the Nigerian embassy here seem to be more concern about its nationals than we are for ourselves. Our complete disregard for the laws of Hungary isn't going to help Nigeria's image or going to promote what the Embassy is trying to showcase. So if the journalists could zoom-in more focus on Nigerians living, working and studying here in Hungary than scrutinizing the embassy and its every move, i think it would be of tremendous help to the embassy serving its nationals better and create more awareness about where we live . Taking the issues of illicit drugs and forged documents as typical examples.. there are so many cases of Nigerians been involved. But i am yet to read of it in e.news. So i think if only you and your journalists could write more about it and follow up on the stories i think it will make our nationals more aware of what to expect. I wouldn't say i am not impressed with your work but you need to be more of a two way street rather than a one way street . Keep up the good work... Sylvia
